Once upon a time, there lived a very sad man. His beloved wife had died in childbirth.

He was left with only their twin sons. He loved the boys very much, for they reminded him of his wife.

Our beautiful and wise Empress had issued a royal decree. The first-born child of each family could remain with the family, but the second-born of every family belonged to the Empress, to serve her faithfully forever.

Well, the father loved his sons very much. They were all that remained of his wife, and he couldn't bear the thought of giving either of them away, even to our glorious Empress.

So, he hid the fact that two children were born. He owned a small restaurant, and he kept the boys hidden in the kitchen.
